  She died with lung cancer. She lived about 9 months after it was diagnosed. She was a heavy smoker. Jewel and Ted Harden were divorced in the early seventies and Jewel never remarried. She was employed by The Social Security Administration for more than 30 years. She was buried in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS
